The main rule: check the care label inside the piece, it matters more than general advice. If in doubt, take the piece to a dry cleaner. Below are general rules for the materials you will meet most often in our collections.
Wool
Wash rarely: airing the piece and brushing it is often enough. If the label allows washing, wash by hand in cool water (up to 30 °C) with a wool detergent, do not rub or wring. Dry flat, away from radiators and the sun. Store knitwear folded: it stretches on a hanger.
Cashmere
Like wool, only more gently: hand wash in cool water or dry clean. Remove pilling with a cashmere comb, not scissors. Store folded, with cedar or lavender against moths.
Silk
Dry cleaning is best. If the label allows washing, wash by hand in cool water with a mild detergent, do not soak for long or wring. Dry out of direct sunlight, iron inside out on a low setting. Perfume and deodorant stain silk: apply them before you get dressed.
Leather
Do not wash. Wipe off dust with a soft dry cloth, leave stains to a leather specialist cleaner. Dry a wet piece at room temperature, away from radiators. Once a season you can treat the leather with leather cream. Store on a wide hanger in a fabric cover, not in plastic.
Suede
Clean with a dry suede brush, lift flattened nap with a suede eraser. Before the first wear and from time to time after, treat the piece with a water-repellent spray. Dry wet suede at room temperature, then brush the nap.
Fur
Cleaning by a furrier only. If the fur gets wet, shake it and let it dry on a hanger at room temperature, without a hairdryer or radiator. Store on a wide hanger in a fabric cover, in a cool place, out of direct sunlight.
Denim
Wash less often, inside out, in cold water and apart from light pieces: dark denim bleeds, especially in the first washes. Do not tumble dry. Wash distressed and hand-dyed denim by hand.
Storage
Keep clean pieces in a ventilated wardrobe out of direct sunlight. Hang jackets and coats on hangers that match the shoulder width, fold knitwear. For long storage use fabric covers and a moth repellent. Keep shoes and bags in dust bags, stuff bags with paper so they keep their shape.
Dry cleaning
Choose a dry cleaner that works with designer pieces. Show them the label and tell them about the stain: what it is and when it appeared. Do not try to remove a stain yourself before dry cleaning, it makes it harder to remove later.
